The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was found guilty of plotting a military coup in September and handed more than over two decades in incarceration, but he continued under home detention pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after "new facts" were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a document approving the detention, Justice Moraes said information from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the tracking monitor to ensure success in his escape.

Background on Conviction
